Investment Assistance Program
As adopted by Council on 28 May 2024, Item AO078-24
Burnie is changing, has changed. With unprecedented opportunities now on our doorstep, now represents a compelling opportunity for businesses to invest in our city. We offer a strategic location on the North West of Tasmania, and are known by some as the City by the Sea. We offer well-developed infrastructure in addition to a significant number of current development for our community – such as a new $20 million Burnie Arts which will be the best integrated cultural precinct on the North West Coast, and a Coastal Pathway that meanders our beautiful coastline. We are fortunate to have received a $17.3 commitment in the most recent State election to invest into our Burnie City Centre Urban Plan where we want to reshape our city to be more attractive, diverse and active and a place where everyone can come to safely work, shop and play.
Annually we receive a phenomenal amount of tourism, primarily through our cruise ship visitation, where in 2023-24 along, about 70,000 visitors and staff came onboard to Burnie, which represents a significant opportunity for our businesses and local economy.
We are so fortunate to have a passionate and caring community who love their city and our enviable lifestyle, a supportive business community, as well as having innovative thinkers that make us the entrepreneurial capital of the North West.
Burnie is on the cusp of recognising our potential, with Marinus Link moving ahead, and supportive development, that will elevate Burnie as the renewable energy hub for the North West.
