Blue Economy Research Trial

IMG_5888.jpeg

The Blue Economy Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) is exploring sustainable growth in the blue economy and is seeking community input on a proposed aquaculture research trial 12km off Burnie’s coast.

The three-year trial will test sustainable offshore systems for farming Tasmanian Atlantic salmon and kingfish using high-energy and traditional methods.

Two pens, each holding 15,000 fish, will be deployed as part of the trial, conducted in partnership with industry, universities, and government. The project will also explore integrating seaweed and shellfish farming, as well as renewable energy.

Join us for coffee drop-ins and community sessions at Burnie Surf Life Saving Club to learn more about the trial and engage with the project team and specialists.
