Council’s website and email addresses are changing!

Email Format

Late last year, Council adopted its Four Year Council Plan 2022-2025. One of the key enabling areas within this plan is the digital transformation of the City of Burnie.  Put simply the Council wants to use technology to deliver services more effectively and efficiency for the benefit of our customers.

As a first step in this major tranformation, Burnie City Council’s email addresses will change from 1 July 2022. The new email address will be burnie@burnie.tas.gov.au

Burnie City Council Mayor Steve Kons said “although our current .net addresses are convenient - security, confidence and trust are more important than ever in a digital environment and hence our transition to the new tas.gov.au format, which is a widely recognised state and local government format.”

Don’t worry, there will be a transition period to give you all time to adjust to the change.

If you accidently send Council an email using the old format (eg. burnie@burnie.net) it will continue to be received via redirection for a period of time. Autoreplies will be emailed back to any senders to remind and encourage them to send future emails to the new email address.

Our Council website address will also change from 1 July. The new address will be www.burnie.tas.gov.au

Council’s old website address will also continue to be redirected for a period of time, although we encourage you to start to get used to using the new formats as early as possible.
