Lifetime Dog Tags
Published on 07 July 2023
Beginning 2023/24 financial year, we are excited to announce the arrival of our new and improved lifetime dog registration tags. Say goodbye to plastic tags and embrace the brand-new metal tags, designed to last for your furry companion's entire life!
Each animal will be allocated a metal tag with a unique number, which will remain with your pet for its lifetime. Though pet owners will still need to renew their dog's registration annually, we will no longer issue plastic tags.
Mayor Brumby said: “Our Council wants to be environmentally responsible and by switching to metal tags, we are taking a proactive step in reducing the waste of hundreds of plastic tags that are discarded each year. Not to mention that metal tags offer the advantage of being able to engrave your pet's name and your contact number on the back.
Additionally we recently asked you how you wanted us to improve the way we delivered services to you. We heard you – with one of the major pieces of feedback being that you wanted to be able to pay for your dog registrations online. We are working on this and will have this in place for next year’s renewal.”
For existing registered pet owners, renewal notices for the 2023-24 period will be sent out in July. During business hours, you can visit the Council Offices to pay your renewal fees and collect your dog's new lifetime metal tag
In the event that your lifetime metal tag is lost or damaged, replacement tags will be readily available. Simply contact the Council by phone or email, and we'll assist you.
Remember, your pet's registration is their ticket home. So please ensure that your furry friend always wears their tag, allowing for a safe return if they happen to wander off.
