Project Objective
The intersection of Mount Street/Three Mile Line Road and Atkins Drive has been under consideration by Council for safety and efficiency improvement for some years, and has been submitted for Blackspot funding a few times. Mount Street is a State road, however the side streets are maintained by Council.

Consultation and Engagement
In February 2022, Council sought community and key stakeholder views in a consultation and study process to determine the most suitable treatment solution to upgrade the intersection, ie traffic signals or a roundabout. At that time, the community completed a questionnaire survey and key stakeholders (schools, transport/bus operators and other organisations that use the intersection regularly) were engaged directly via our Traffic Engineer.

Council received a welcome 250 community survey responses and overwhelmingly the community viewed transport efficiency and road user safety including pedestrian safety as important. 69% of respondents agreed that a roundabout best suited the site.

The stakeholder engagement process also told us a roundabout is the preferred solution. Following the consultation process, Council gained approval from Department of State Growth to proceed with a roundabout.

Outcome
Council has refined a concept design for the roundabout, updated the construction cost estimate and gained additional Blackspot funding via the Department of State Growth. The total project cost is estimated to be $1.053M.

Council would like to thank the community and stakeholders for the high level of interest and feedback on this important project. This project web page will be updated as the project proceeds.
