Burnie City Centre Urban Plan

Burnie City Council has released the draft of an Urban Plan to transform the Burnie City Centre to create a vibrant and engaging place to work, live, shop and socialise.

South Burnie Beach - Boat Ramp Redevelopment Project

South Burnie Boat Ramp infrastructure redevelopment will improve the overall amenity and functionality for recreational boat users, other watercraft and the fishing enthusiasts amongst us.

Oonah Road - Updates

Burnie Arts redevelopment project

We are excited to share with you the progress towards a reimagined Burnie Arts.

Burnie Coastal Pathway

Since 2009, the Coastal Pathway development in Burnie has included sections from Emu River to Red Rock and Cooee to Cam River, featuring shared bike paths and walking tracks.

Metro Bus All Access Upgrades

This is a State Government funded project to upgrade existing bus stops within the Burnie Municipality to comply with Disability Discrimination Act 1992.

Mount Street/Three Mile Line Intersection - Proposed Roundabout

Council has refined a concept design for a roundabout at the intersection of Mount Street and Three Mile Line intersection.
The aim is to start construction on 30 September 2023 to coincide with the October school holidays, with works expected to be complete by Christmas 2023.

Cooee to Wynyard Coastal Pathway

Cooee to Wynyard coastal pathway progress updates - a combined project with Waratah Wynyard Council.

Letteene Road and Round Hill road works

Please be aware of road interruptions on Letteene Road commencing Friday 27 October.

Electric Vehicle EV Chargers in the Multi-Storey Car Park

The two Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations located in the Multi-Storey Car Park are ready for use - and - they are free for the first 12 months 🚗⚡

New Shelters at View Road Reserve

Have you seen the new shelters being installed at View Road Reserve yet 😄 ?

Fern glade Reserve - Post and Rail fence replacement

This project is to undertake the replacement of the existing fencing between the northern and Southern visitors nodes at the fern Glade Reserve. A new post and rail fence will be installed on the river side of the track to prevent falls into the adjacent river and down the steep embankment.

Kerb Outfall Replacement Program 2023/24

This annual program aims to replace/repair 13 damaged stormwater kerb outlets within the Acton area with a further 12 provisionally selected, budget depending.

Gully Pit Improvement Program 2023-24

The annual Gully Pit improvement program aims to replace 34 stormwater gully pits within the Acton area.

View Road - Additional Carpark

As the popularity of View Road continues, Council is creating an addition 30+ car park for the community to utilise in this great multi use area

Burnie Gateway Project

The pataway/Burnie Gateway Commission will help the council enhance the visual appeal of the city entrance, greeting visitors with a welcoming wave gesture.

The Tasmanian Government has been exploring ways to meet extra energy demand that protects Tasmanian environmental values, supports industry, and benefits Tasmanian communities. Renewable Energy Zones (REZ) are a way to achieve this.

Cradle Coast Future Energy Hub

TasNetworks' North West Transmission Developments

TasNetworks' North West Transmission Developments project is a once-in-a-generation upgrade to the electricity transmission network. The upgrade is needed to support Tasmania’s ambition to become a world-leading renewable energy provider and double clean energy production by 2040

Old Surrey Road and Massy-Greene Drive Upgrades

The Australian and Tasmanian Governments have committed $20 million to improve productivity and safety along Mount Street, Old Surrey Road and Massy-Greene Drive.

Bass Hwy Pedestrian Crossings

The Department of State Growth has committed to improving pedestrian crossing facilities across the Bass Highway in seven locations from Ocean Vista to Somerset.

Agricultural Training Centre of Excellence

In September 2023, TasTAFE opened a $5 million Agricultural Training Centre of Excellence at Freer Farm, Burnie. The modern facility provides industry-relevant skills and training through a farm-based learning center, fostering collaboration with the sector.

Cam River Bridge - Night Works

The Department of State Growth would like to advise the community of the upcoming night works as part of the Department of State Growths Cam River Bridge replacement Project.

Green Light for North Terrace Visitor Accommodation

Private Investment to Build $12m Multi-Storey Accommodation Development in Burnie

Youth2Independence Y2I Youth Foyer

Stubbs Constructions is building a 25-bed facility to provide supported accommodation, education, and employment options for young people in North-West Tasmania. The site is located next to the Burnie TasTAFE campus and Hellyer College, it will be operated by Youth Family and Community Connections (YFCC).

Tasrail Shiploader Project

The commissioning of the Tasrail Shiploader at Burnie Port is scheduled for 2023. It is expected to double the current infrastructure's loading rate and offer substantial benefits in terms of reliability, safety, and the environment.

Cam River Bridge Replacement

Transport Tasmania is replacing the Cam River Bridge on the Bass Highway and installing traffic signals at the Murchison Highway junction in Camdale and Somerset as part of the Bass Highway Action Plan.

Marinus Link

Marinus Link is a proposed two-way electricity and telecommunications interconnector between Victoria and Tasmania. Plans include a convertor station site at Heybridge.
