NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR PERMIT UNDER SECTION 57 OF THE LAND USE PLANNING AND APPROVALS ACT 1993

Permit Application DA 2022/76

The proposal involves the construction and operation of two converter stations and one switching station located in Heybridge, Tasmania, involving substantial earthworks, potential remediation or disposal of contaminated soils, civil works, and commissioning. The proposal requires a permit under the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993 (Tas) (LUPAA). A permit application has been lodged with Burnie City Council (Council) and the Director of the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) required Council to refer the permit application to the Board of the EPA for assessment under section 24 of the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 (Tas) (EMPCA). Marinus Link Pty Ltd (Marinus Link) has lodged a supporting Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposal.

The proposal is also being assessed by the Australian Government under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cth) (EPBC Act) and the Victorian Government under the Environmental Effects Act 1978 (Vic). Marinus Link prepared a combined Environment Effects Statement and EIS for the Victorian and Australian Government, which was advertised for public comment between 31 May 2024 and 12 July 2024.
