Walking Tracks and Trails

Walking Tracks and Trails

Burnie boasts an impressive range of walking tracks and trails, both in urban settings and within the Council's parks and reserves. Visitors can check out the bush walks below for some of the best views in northwest Tasmania. For those who enjoy long walks or cycling, there is also a broader network connecting Burnie's parks and reserves consisting of walking tracks, bush trails, and footpaths.

The Coastal Pathway, which spans sections along the coast, CBD, and beach, is shared with cyclists, allowing you to connect with facilities, services, and friends while enjoying the stunning scenery. Whether you're seeking a leisurely stroll or a more challenging hike or bike ride, Burnie's walking tracks and trails offer something for everyone.

Burnie Park and Oldaker Falls

Oldaker Falls is a small urban waterfall located in the Burnie Park. This beautiful park also has magnificent facilities, amphitheater, playgrounds, gardens and lawns and a lovely walk encircles the park at just under 1km.

The Burnie Coastal Pathway

The Burnie Coastal Pathway is a shared path network currently extending from Cooee Red Rock, around the perimeter of the CBD, and through to the Emu River South Burnie/Wivenhoe.  Burnie ParkRun utilises part of the coastal pathway, starting at the waterfront 9am Saturdays.

The Pulp and Paper Trail

The Pulp Paper Trail (pictured) makes up part of the Coastal Pathway on the foreshore at South Burnie.

Opposite the remains of the historic paper mill this public art interpretive walk was designed to honour the men and women who worked at Burnie’s pulp and paper mill between 1937 and 2010.

Romaine Reserve

Romaine Reserve features a shared fitness track that winds around the dam following Romaine Creek, starting from either Swanston street or the carpark at Amanda Court Romaine, through to Mount Street/Singline Avenue.

View Road Reserve

View Road Reserve consists of shared unpaved paths and walkways that weave through the Reserve from View Road West Park Grove, through to Thorne street.

Fernglade Reserve

Fernglade Reserve is also connected by a shared path, from Wivenhoe beach along Old Surrey Road and Fernglade road and through the reserve.  For those looking for a longer walk the trail continues on past the Fernglade Reserve lookout and up to Rutherfords Road return.

Guide Falls

Guide Falls is a 20min drive from Burnie. Take the easy 10-minute walk to the base of the waterfalls.  Climb the steep stairs to the viewing platform for a birds-eye view of the falls.

Shared Paths

Shared paths are designed for a variety of users, including cyclists, pedestrians, and runners. To ensure everyone's safety and enjoyment, please follow these etiquette guidelines:

  • Keep to the left on the path at all times.
  • Cyclists: Lower your speed on busy pathways and ride in single file. Ensure your bike is equipped with a bell, as required by law.
  • Pedestrians: Stay aware of your surroundings. If listening to music, keep the volume low enough to hear approaching cyclists. Move into single file when needed to allow cyclists to pass safely.
  • Dog owners: Keep your dog on a short lead to prevent it from straying into the path of cyclists.

By respecting these guidelines, we can all share the path safely and harmoniously
