Waste Collection
Easter: No changes to Residential Collections. Commercial collections on the Fridays 18 & 25 will be collected on the Thursday prior.
Depending on where you live, your annual rates include weekly waste collection and fortnightly recycling services.
Please note that 100% of kerbside waste currently goes to landfill. To help reduce this, please divert recyclable items from your green-lidded waste bin to your yellow-lidded recycling bin whenever possible.
Rethink Your Waste
Reducing household waste starts with small changes to everyday habits. Avoiding waste in the first place is the most effective way to cut down on landfill. Every effort to recycle or reuse helps the environment by decreasing landfill volume and increasing resource recovery.
Burnie City Council has set a target of 50:50 landfill to recycling/reuse – your actions can help us get there.
Collection Guidelines
Bin Maintenance & Responsibilities
-
Residents must supply their own waste bin: Acceptable sizes are 120L or 240L wheelie bins, with a maximum total weight of 50kg.
-
Only one waste bin per property may be placed out for collection.
-
Residents are responsible for keeping bins in working condition, including wheels, axles, and lids.
-
Lost or damaged bins must be repaired or replaced by the resident.
Important Safety Tips
-
Loosely pack your waste so it can be emptied easily and safely by our collection team.
-
Place only safe, non-sharp materials in your bin to avoid damage or injury.
-
Allow items to cool completely before placing them in the bin to prevent fire hazards.
