Disabled Zones

Designated disabled, wheelchair-accessible parking zones are available throughout the CBD and Multi-storey car park Disability permits must be displayed while using a disabled parking zone.

Free Disability Parking in Burnie changes from Oct 2023.

Permanent permit applications are available from Service Tasmania and temporary permit applications are available through Council.

Disability Zones
Disability parking permit holders can park for free in Designated Disability Zones for double the stated time limit on the signage. For example:
- A 1-hour limit allows for 2 hours of free parking.
- A 2-hour limit allows for 4 hours of free parking.

Regular parking spaces
With a disability parking permit in regular parking spaces, pay for the initial time limit, then receive the same additional time free when your permit is displayed.

Multi-storey car park
Disability parking permit holders can access unlimited free parking in the Multi-Storey Car Park's Designated Disability Zones with a displayed permit. Validate your ticket at the customer service booth and exit before 6:20 PM to avoid an exit fee. First-time users must present their permit for registration; afterward, only a parking ticket is needed for validation.

Loading Zones

Loading zones are provided to assist commercial vehicles in the delivery of goods for nearby businesses.

The State Government has legislation that determines who can use loading zones. See the loading zone criteria for details on usage.

Truck Zones

In April 2024, the Council voted to convert two CBD loading zones to "Truck Zones" during business hours.  This is to enable couriers in large trucks two areas that are exclusively available for them to deliver and not have to wait for a loading zone to become available or are unable to use a normal metered bay due to size.

Acceptable vehicles to utilise these truck zone areas are trucks and very large vans with a GVM over 4.5 tonnes.

The 2 zones are:

  • Mount Street outside Sportspower and
  • Wilson Street outside Cotton On.

Overlength Vehicle Parking

Facilities to park oversized vehicles including RV, Caravan, Motor home, Bus or Trailer.

Motorcycle parking

There is a Free designated parking zone on North Terrace near the surfclub.

Motorbikes may also utilise parking spaces on our streets and off-street parking, including the Marine Terrace Multi-Storey Car Park.  One or more motorcycles may park in a designated marked space for the applicable fee.
