Burnie Inn - 175 years
Published on 11 August 2022
An old lady in Burnie Park is celebrating her 175 years this year!
In 1847, The Burnie Tavern, later known at the Burnie Inn was our first licensed premises.
The Burnie Inn is the city’s oldest surviving building, it was moved from its original site in 1973 and is now restored and preserved in the Burnie Park.
Burnie Inn modelled in Federation Street
The Federation Street exhibit in the Burnie Regional Museum was commissioned 50 years ago by Peter Mercer, who recreated a streetscape to depict what life in Burnie might have been like at the turn of the twentieth century.
The Emu Bay Inn featured in the Federation Street exhibit is modelled on the Burnie Inn, and displays some of the personal possessions of one of the best known operators Granny Wiseman.
